3 easy foods to go-to during stressful times

Stressful times calls for nutrient-rich support! The ideal situation would be to avoid chronic stress in the first place, but that's not always possible. In the last blog post I wrote about how stress affects our body in general, today I would like to bring awareness to how stress causes a depletion of essential nutri

ents within our bodies and 3 go-to easy foods I consume to support my body during stressful periods.

While a lot has been said about macro-nutrients such as proteins, carbs and fats, did you know that stress can deplete our bodies can deplete your body of crucial vitamins and minerals such as magnesium, potassium, zinc, Vitamins such as B vitamins, Vit C, as well as Omega 3s?

Here is what I do to support my body from a nutritional point of view during stressful periods:

Ensure that I get my Omega 3s and B vitamins:

  • Chia seeds which are rich in Omega 3s with cereal and Greek yogurt (also great as fermented foods are great for stress).

  • Avocado and Toast with Eggs: Avocados are rich in B vitamins and Omega 3s. Eggs are also a rich source of B vitamins that get depleted when you body is going through a stressful period.

Consume Micro-nutrient Minerals:

  • You know that 3.00pm dip? My go-to snack during that 3.00pm dip is a Banana + Dates + Almonds and Cashew nut. This combination is great for getting those minerals such as potassium, magnesium, zinc etc in my body.

Ensure I get enough Vit C:

  • My morning cup of Ayurvedic tea (I’ll do a separate post on this) contains lemon which is an important source of Vit C.

  • Alternatively I'll have some berries which are a rich source of anti-oxidants plus Vit C if I'm craving something sweet and sugary

Nutrition is highly individual, and there are many other sources of Vitamins and minerals, the most important takeaway here is being aware of the exactly what may be getting depleted, and being aware of how we are supporting our bodies via nutrition when stressed.
