Immunity Tea with Holy Basil, or Tulsi

Updated: May 14, 2020

Holy Basil or Tulsi is rightly revered as the queen of herbs in India including Ayurveda for its immense therapeutic value and is referred to as the "Elxir of Life". This wonderful tea draws on Tulsi's multiple therapeutic actions including adaptogenic, antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, cardioprotective, and immunomodulatory effects (Evidence-Based Complementary and Alternative Medicine article).

The only reason this amazing herb is not as popular as say, turmeric, is because it has not been "marketed" as well in the west. But it is a herb everyone could use especially in these times where immunity and respiratory disease is a hot topic.

Benefits of Tulsi:

  • It is a potent adaptogen that helps regulate stress and anxiety by regulating cortisol levels.

  • It is antibacterial, antiviral, antifungal and anti-inflammatory.

  • Helps with respiratory disorders due to its antitussive (helps relieving cough) and expectorant (helps in expelling out the phlegm) properties

  • It also has blood sugar level stabilising properties

How to make the tea:

  • Boil a few Tulsi leaves, cloves, black peppercorns and ginger.

  • Add a pinch of turmeric (optional).

  • Sip on this all day esp if under stress or not keeping well

This is a easy wonderful tea which can be had everyday or sipped on all day when you need an immunity boost/feel a cold coming on.
